Haircuts are Contagious Around Here

Image
I had been noticing over the past week or so that our resident toddler's hairdo was becoming a bit wacky and unmanageable.  On yesterday she agreed and declared, "I want Kasey to take my haircut!!"  Kasey is a good friend who also happens to be pretty great cutter of hair.  We were really in luck because it turned out that Kasey was working an had an appointment free just for Lili.  Hooray! "I am ready, Kasey!  Take my haircut!" There at the salon, the little person who terrorizes me night and day, sat and behaved like a perfect angel throughout the entire haircut.  The little person who, ten minutes before her appointment, had been standing atop a chair in my kitchen, waving a magic wand and commanding, "YOU MAKE ME EGGS!" stayed still and on her bottom with a perfectly cherubic look of innocence on her face like this... Of course I am not complaining.  I am glad that she is able to exhibit self control and that she doesn't ...

I Caved...

I grew so weary of hearing George call Lili "Joe Dirt" and could no longer tolerate his making fun of her "baby mullet" that I ended up here tonight...  We joined the Fitzgeralds for a completely innocent birthday celebration, and the mockery finally got to me.  "Alright, Kasey!  Get your scissors," I exclaimed knowing that I had been tragically worn down and defeated.  Then we sat in the kitchen and I put Lili's little curls in the very capable hands of our hairdressing friend... Goodbye, Curls!! I don't know why baby's first haircut is so hard for us mamas.  I know I'm not the only one.  Lili now looks cute as can be, and her hair looks much tidier.  George can no longer call her Joe Dirt, but it's still a little sad.

Emma's Got a Brand New 'Do

Image
Sophie and Emma went to the fancy hair salon this week to get haircuts before school starts so that they won't start the year being called "those scraggly Carson kids."  In Wales the girls had their hairs cut by our lovely friend, Rhian, who was a mobile hairdresser and would come to our home.  So having a haircut out at a salon and being offered a glass of Sprite while they waited was a hugely exciting novelty for those two. Around 10 months or so ago, I "strongly encouraged" Emma to get her hair cut in a rather short bob.  With the new baby and all of my health issues, I decided that a shorter haircut for Emma would simplify things just a little, and every little bit was worth something.  Ever since then, she has bemoaned her short hair and has been growing it out.  It had finally gotten long enough to be pulled back in pony tails this summer, so I assumed Emma's haircut would be just a trim. She's a big girl now, so I sent her back to the stylist...
